Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE 2028-2034 territorial analysis and strategy building support

City of Vienna, Municipal Department for European Affairs

  • Start Date: April 2026

  • Status: In Progress

Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE (CE) is a European Territorial Cooperation programme fostering transnational cooperation among public institutions, private businesses and civil society organisations from across Central Europe, benefiting 148 million people in nine countries: Austria, Croatia, Czechia, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Interreg CENTRAL EUROPE funds projects supporting a smarter, greener and more connected Central Europe area, while also strengthening governance and integrated territorial development.

The objective of this service is to provide the Working Group CE28+ and the Managing Authority/Joint Secretariat with expert support for the preparation of the “Strategy” section of the Interreg CE 2028-2034 Chapter.
The service is organised in the following three main tasks:

  1. Analysis of territorial challenges, needs, and potentials.

  2. Support to the Interreg CE strategy design.

  3. Recommendations for the thematic orientation of the Interreg CE 2028-2034 Chapter.

More in detail, the service aims to identify and assess territorial challenges, needs, and potentials for transnational cooperation, systematically aligning them with the policy objectives outlined in the draft National and Regional Partnership Plan Regulation and the Interreg-specific objectives of the draft ERDF/CF Regulation. This first task will then support and facilitate the design process for the Interreg CE 2028-2034 strategy and help formulate recommendations for the Interreg CE 2028-2034 Chapter.

The service is coordinated by Dea Hrelja (t33), in consortium with OpenEconomics.
